75+ Tips on Becoming a Better Networker

By Jessica Hupp

Networking can open you up to new opportunities, relationships, and more. But you have to know what you’re doing, or your attempts may quickly become an exercise in futility. Follow these tips to sharpen your skills and make networking work for you.

The Basics

Before you can become a better networker, you’ve got to master these essentials.

1. Always introduce yourself: Don’t get caught up in a conversation and forget to tell someone who you are. Be sure to say your name clearly and offer a business card when appropriate.
2. Shake hands: Create a physical connection and open yourself up with a handshake.
3. Bring lots of business cards: Never network empty-handed. Always have something to give to others for them to remember you by.
4. Outline your goals: Have a clear plan in sight for every event or contact, and you’ll be better prepared to reap success through networking.
5. Be genuine: No one wants to talk to someone who presents themselves awkwardly. Be authentic, and people will trust you.
6. Stay positive: Be an energizing force to those around you, and others will be attracted.
7. Keep a generous mindset: Don’t go to a meeting thinking about what you want. Rather, think about how you can help others, and you’ll earn what you’re looking for.

GEOCACHING, DANGEROUS GAME?

I have really thrilling experience, so although it is OFF TOPIC and completely not related to the main topics of this blog, i have to share it with you. I play game called GEOCACHING. This saturday afternoon we went with girlfriend to find her first cache, she was succesful and after few minutes we found it.

We decided to find another one, but this one was bit more tricky, because it was so called mystery cache. It means that author of this cache does not provide you with exact GPS location, but you have to first found the clues and than count the final GPS location. I made mistake and thought , that the second GPS location is the final one, but there were 3.

We were searching on wrong location for cache, which is originally 500 metres away. I was about to give it up, because there was nothing to be found, it was getting dark and freezing. Suddenly, girlfriend screamed: "I found dead body". I thought that it is a bad joke, but it was not. There was hidden under branches dead human. We called the police and told them our story, it is still under investigation and no media are covering it yet, except this article and my private BLOG in czech language.

To be continued......

Vaclav Klaus vs. Jaroslav Pros

I decided to contribute with some environmental oriented article because it is blog action day today http://blogactionday.com/

I have shaken hand of Vaclav Klaus on one of his pre-election meetings, before he was elected as Czech president and although i did not like everything he was saying, i was always supporting him. But i do not like his opinions about environmental issues, so i decided to give you my opinions about some of his views, for complete article check http://www.klaus.cz/klaus2/asp/clanek.asp?id=pxJQbZiEtmMH

Vaclav Klaus: the increase in global temperatures in the last years, decades and centuries has been very small
Jaroslav Pros: It depends what is very small for him, for people on islands 10 centimetres above ocean, is every 0,1 Celsius degrees very dangerous.

Vaclav Klaus:The arguments of global warming alarmists rely exclusively upon very speculative forecasts, not upon past experience.
Jaroslav Pros: Again i cannot agree, their forecasts are speculative like all forecasts, how close will they be, we will see, but there are already some proven facts from past.

Václav Klaus:the scientific dispute about the causes of recent climate changes continues.
Jaroslav Pros: I agree, but still there are some facts, which cannot be forgotten, including cars polution, forests cutting, natural resources depletion etc.

Vaclav Klaus:a rational response to any danger depends on the size and probability of the eventual risk and on the magnitude of the costs of its avoidance.
Jaroslav Pros: I agree that it is very expensive to take care of nature and that if our generation will invest money to protect environment, that the impact will not be so huge, but do we have the right to not think about next generations?

Vaclav Klaus:Economic growth, increase of wealth and technical progress represent the solution to the consequences of eventual climate changes, not their cause.
Jaroslav Pros: If poor south has the same economic growth, increase of wealth and technical progress as rich north, the earth would be devastated in few decades.

Vaclav Klaus:What the world needs now is to remain “quite normal”.
Jaroslav Pros: I do not think that this is the solution, because the approach to environment is not “quite normal”, but “quite bad” :(

You're Invited: The Web Finally Catches Up With Consulting

I hope and trust this note finds you well.

You may be interested in a new company I signed up with--Blue Chip Expert--that connects top-flight contractors, consultants and interim executives with the folks who need them. It could be an ideal resource for you and takes only minutes to register. One signal of the exclusivity and caliber of the people and opportunities is the fact that BCE is invitation only.

So when you visit, please use this invitation code: jp007
You can enter through www.bluechipexpert.com.

Membership is free. There is no charge for prospective employers to review a candidate's credentials. Just like an executive search firm, no money changes hands unless somebody gets placed. In fact, the Association of Executive Search Consultants has made Blue Chip Expert their recommended resource for contract and interim placements. No other company deals with such premium placements.

Because every member has to be referred into the network, there is a social networking aspect. I think BCE is what LinkedIn should've been. But CNN has profiled Blue Chip a little differently: http://money.cnn.com/magazines/business2/business2_archive/2006/10/01/8387089/index.htm?postversion=2006101707

I invite you to visit and register with BCE using the invitation code below:

http://www.bluechipexpert.com/invite?code=jp007

Of course, I welcome any questions you might have.

Sincerely,

Jaroslav
